Ukraine's state energy company Energoatom said on Thursday that the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant in the nation's southeast was temporarily cut off from the country's power grid, when fires occurred near the complex.

The Russian-seized power plant normally has four external power lines. Three of them were severed previously, due to shelling or other reasons. The last remaining line is the one that was cut.

The plant's operator blamed Russia for cutting off the line. It said, "The actions of the invaders caused a complete disconnection" from the power grid for the first time in the history of the plant.

The International Atomic Energy Agency issued a statement. It said it was informed by Ukraine that the line has been restored.

The IAEA pointed out that the plant still has diesel generators that can provide back-up power.

But it added, "A secure off-site power supply from the grid is essential for ensuring nuclear safety."

The facility is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. It has been attacked repeatedly this month, raising fears of a possible nuclear disaster.

The IAEA is planning to send a team of experts to the facility in the next few days to conduct an onsite inspection.
