The electricity supply situation is likely to worsen in many parts of Japan in the summer, the industry ministry said Friday, with the government recommending more efforts to conserve power and the increased use of nuclear energy at plants confirmed to be safe.

In the event of an extremely hot summer, the reserve rate, or the margin of electricity supply capacity over demand, is expected to fall to 3.8% in five regions in July, the ministry said.
