Roku’s fall 2022 plans include an update to its budget Express streaming device, along with a new wireless subwoofer meant to pair with the company’s audio offerings.

First up, the new Express, model 3960, still tops out at 1080p HD resolution, but it does add support for dual-band WiFi so users with increasingly crowded networks can choose from either 2.4GHz or 5GHz frequencies. That represents a step up from the outgoing Express (aka model 3930), which offers only single-band 802.11b/g/n support.

And while the company’s press release is a bit light on hardware specs, Roku reps did confirm that this new Express also boasts improved performance, including more onboard storage to speed up loading times.

As far as pricing goes, the updated Express maintains its predecessor’s price point, with an MSRP of $29.99. Preorders start today at Walmart, Amazon, and Roku’s own site, while shipping is set for mid-October. Sure enough, Roku’s site lists the new Express as expected to ship starting on Oct. 13. Other retailers are expected to carry the new Roku Express beginning on Oct. 16.

On the audio front, the company is also introducing a new subwoofer unit called the Roku Wireless Bass. The compact unit is intended to pair well with the company’s other audio gear, including the Streambar, Wireless Speakers, and Wireless Soundbar.

As the name implies, the Wireless Bass unit syncs with existing Roku audio setups without cables — though you’ll still need to plug in a power cord.

Preorders start today, with availability at Roku’s own site and Best Buy slated for Nov. 7th. The Wireless Bass carries a price of $129.99.

Compatibility is limited to Roku’s own audio options, so those looking to add some compact low-end oomph to non-Roku speakers will need to look elsewhere.

And if you don’t already have an audio setup, Roku is also offering a bundle that pairs the new Wireless Bass with the company’s Streambar. That bundle will be called — wait for it — the Roku Streambar and Wireless Bass bundle and it’s also available for preorder starting today. Pricing for the bundle rings in at $249.99, and availability also set for Nov. 7th.
