ARRI has published a tutorial that demonstrates how to assemble the Lightweight Set for the ALEXA 35. It’s highly recommended to watch this even if you don’t intend to shoot with the 35 any time soon. Explore how great engineering comes together.

The ALEXA 35 Lightweight Set includes a number of new and unique mechanical support parts designed for single operators, small crews, and lightweight rigging scenarios. The set can be purchased as a whole package including the camera. This Lightweight Set combines the ALEXA 35 camera with a Cine License, both an LPL mount and a PL to LPL adapter, a B-mount battery plate, lightweight support set with both 15mm LWS and 15mm studio rod support, a shoulder baseplate, and a dovetail. These are the components:

In a video published as a part of the ARRI Tech Talk series, Product Marketing Manager Sean Dooley takes you through the process of building the Lightweight Set and gives you a little bit of info on each of the components and what you can use them for. Explore how the dedicated top, side, and bottom components like an EVF support, a top handle, a bridge plate adapter, a shoulder pad, and side brackets, all come together perfectly in order to transform the ALEXA 35 into a compact, minimized, yet convenient camera setup, that can serve you well in a various solo shooting scenarios: Shoulder, handheld or attached to Easyrig. Watch the view below:

This new camera from ARRI continues to fascinate us, and especially its core, which is the ALEV 4. It will be interesting to know more about the origin of the ALEV 4, but it will be even more intriguing to explore how its extended dynamic range shows up on the big screen. We bet that there’re a few productions that already shooting with the ALEXA 35 for theatrical releases. Happy times to cinephiles.
