SA Police follow track marks to find cable theft suspects

Three people accused of stealing a large wheel of electrical cable from an Adelaide building site overnight have been stopped in their tracks after police followed a trail from the crime scene in wet grass.

A witness reported seeing someone roll the wheel of cable from a housing development on Nilpena Avenue at Morphettville about 2:20am on Friday.

Officers arrived to find a generator with its cables cut, and track marks through wet grass.

Officers followed the fresh tracks to the garage of a nearby home, where they allegedly found the wheel of cable.

Police said they found more cable at the home, which they alleged was being stripped to extract the metal from within.

Two Morphettville men, aged 29 and 33, were arrested and charged with theft.

A 29-year-old woman was reported by officers for the same offence.
